Amal Dissanayaka is an action researcher from Colombo, Sri Lanka. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Ruhuna and a Certificate in Anthropology from the University of Queensland Australia, as well as an MA in Sociology from the University of Colombo. Currently, he is a Researcher at the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute (HARTI), based in Colombo. He is also a member of the ‘Committee on Managing Wildlife Crop Damages in Rural Agrarian Areas’ under the Ministry of Agriculture. Amal actively works in the field of wildlife protection and human-animal interaction in Sri Lanka’s remaining forests. Further, he is conducting research on Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC), which has become a prominent socio-economic issue in his country.
